When I first started in the custom apparel business, I saw so many creative people run into the same challenges. They had amazing ideas, but were limited by traditional methods like vinyl and screen printing. That’s exactly why I built Limitless Transfers — to give creators like you a better way to bring custom designs to life using Direct to Film (DTF) custom transfers.
This technology completely changed how we create t-shirts, hoodies, and apparel of all kinds. With DTF, you don’t have to worry about dye migration, color restrictions, or time-consuming setup. Our film transfers deliver unmatched quality, vibrant colors, and smooth application on nearly all fabric types. Whether you’re pressing DTF transfers for personal projects or bulk orders, the process is simple, efficient, and built for professional results.
We’ve poured everything into perfecting this craft, and we’re proud to have been recognized as a 1st Place award-winning supplier in DTF printing for both 2024 and 2025. Our direct to film transfers are designed to last—these transfers hold through multiple washes while maintaining their soft feel and vivid color.
If you’ve ever battled artwork issues, confusing file types, or struggled to find the right sheet size for your designs, this guide is for you. I’ll walk you through how to prepare your art in the proper file format, set it up in your design program, and place your transfer perfectly every time. You’ll even see how sample prints and UV DTF options can help you test and elevate your creative process.
At Limitless Transfers, we make sure every order meets the same great quality standard — because your ideas deserve nothing less than the best.
What Are DTF Transfers and How Do They Work?
DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing is a revolutionary process that lets you create vibrant, full-color designs for almost any fabric. Here’s how it works in simple terms: we print your design onto a special film using specially formulated DTF inks. Then, a powdered adhesive is applied to the back of the ink. When you’re ready, you simply use heat to press the transfer onto your garment, and the design becomes a permanent part of the fabric.
So, why choose DTF printing over other methods?
- DTF vs. Vinyl: Unlike vinyl, DTF transfers don’t require any tedious weeding or layering. You can print intricate designs with fine details and unlimited colors in a single step. The final print is also much softer and more flexible.
- DTF vs. Sublimation: Sublimation only works on polyester fabrics and light colors. DTF transfers can be applied to cotton, polyester, blends, and even dark-colored garments, giving you far more creative freedom.
- DTF vs. Screen Printing: While screen printing is great for bulk orders of simple designs, it becomes costly and complex with multiple colors. DTF transfer printing allows for full-color, photorealistic images without expensive setup fees for each color.
One of the biggest advantages of these custom heat transfers is their durability. The high-quality prints maintain their vivid colors and crisp details even after multiple washes, without cracking or peeling.
How to Order Custom DTF Transfers (Step-by-Step)
We’ve designed our ordering process to be as simple as possible. Here’s how you can get your custom DTF transfers in just a few clicks.
- Upload Your Design: Start by uploading your artwork. We accept high-resolution PNG files with a transparent background, as well as vector files like AI or EPS. A print-ready file is key to getting the best results.
- Choose Your Transfer Sheet Type: You can order a single image, a custom size, or a gang sheet. DTF gang sheets are the most popular option, as they let you place multiple designs on one sheet to maximize value.
- Review Your Artwork: Our system allows you to review your artwork before finalizing the order. If your design has thin lines or intricate details that might not print well, our team can help fix them (art fees may apply). This step ensures your files are print-ready.
- Select Shipping & Quantity: One of the best parts? There is no minimum order quantity! Whether you need one transfer or a thousand, we’ve got you covered. We also offer fast turnaround times, with options for same-day shipping and free UPS Ground shipping on orders over $50.
- Checkout & Delivery: Complete your purchase, and we’ll handle the rest. Our reliable shipping and delivery service ensures your transfers arrive safely and on time, reflecting our commitment to budget-friendly prices and consistent customer satisfaction.

Understanding DTF Gang Sheets (and When to Use Them)
DTF gang sheets are large transfer sheets where you can arrange multiple different designs, or “gang” them together, to be printed at once. This is by far the most efficient and cost-effective way to order custom prints, as you pay for the sheet, not for the number of designs on it.
Our online Gang Sheet Builder makes the process incredibly easy. You can upload all your logos, graphics, and text, then arrange them on the sheet to maximize your use of the space and minimize waste. Whether you’re creating holiday-themed shirts, printing business logos for your team, or producing a run of shirts with intricate designs and vibrant colors, custom DTF gang sheets are the perfect solution for both one-off projects and bulk orders.
Applying DTF Transfers the Right Way
You don’t need a massive industrial setup to apply our transfers. A quality heat press will give you the most consistent results, but a home iron can also work in a pinch.
Using a Heat Press (Recommended):
- Set your heat press to the recommended temperature, typically between 280-320°F (140-160°C).
- Pre-press your garment for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
- Place the DTF transfer on the garment, with the printed side down.
- Cover the transfer with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper to protect it.
- Press with medium pressure for 10-15 seconds.
- Follow the peel instructions. Our transfers can be either hot peel or cold peel. For a hot peel, you’ll remove the film immediately after pressing. For a cold peel, let the transfer cool completely before removing the film. Cold peels often result in a slightly glossier finish, while hot peels offer a matte look.
- Do a final press for 5 seconds with parchment paper on top to seal the design.
The transfer will hold its color and crisp details, even on designs with thin lines.

Bonus: Tips for Getting the Best Print Quality
To ensure your final product looks professional, a little prep goes a long way.
- Design Properly: Use a program like Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Designer to create high-resolution images (300 DPI is best). This ensures sharp details and smooth gradients.
- Check Your File: Always save your design with a transparent background. Double-check your artwork for any stray pixels or background colors before uploading.
- Extend Longevity: To keep your prints looking great, wash the apparel inside out in cold water and tumble dry on low.
- Try a Sample: If you’re a first-time customer, consider ordering a sample pack. It’s a great way to see and feel the incredible detail and quality for yourself before placing a larger order.
