You’ve got your transfer. Now, how do you get it onto the shirt without ruining it? You need a heat press. While a standard iron might work for patches, for professional DTF results, consistent pressure and heat are non-negotiable.

Before you start, position your DTF sheet on the fabric, print side up, ensuring it is centered and smooth.

First, identify the print side. The rough, powdery side is the adhesive—that goes face down against the fabric. The smooth, shiny side is the carrier sheet—that faces up.

Basic press steps for consistent results:

1. Pre-press your garment for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture. This is vital!
2. Place your transfer and press. Use medium-firm pressure. Press at 320°F for 100% cotton, or 280°F for polyester or blends, for 8 seconds.
3. Peel. Since we specialize in true hot-peel transfers, you can peel the film immediately while it’s hot—no need to wait for the transfer to cool. Peeling while warm gives a smooth, clean finish, but cold peeling is also an option.
4. Post-press. Cover the design with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and press again for 5-10 seconds to seal it in.

Pressure, heat, and timing matter. If your pressure is too light, the adhesive won’t bond with the fabric fibers. If it’s too hot, you might scorch the shirt. Common mistakes like uneven pressure are usually the culprit if you see peeling or cracking after a wash.
